A Message from the College of Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies (SSIS) Dean Dianne Hyson
As we approach the end of another unusual semester this fall, we are happy to share news from the College of Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies in a new format. Several new faculty, staff, and students joined us this academic year and we enthusiastically welcome them! We are proud to continue supporting students through ongoing scholarships, offering a rich and varied curriculum across 14 programs, and among many other activities, taking active leadership in the implementation of a statewide assembly bill that mandates completion of an Ethnic Studies course for all students graduating from the CSU.
We are gradually migrating back to campus including cheering on graduates and their loved ones in decked-out cars! As we look ahead to spring 2022, we are committed to the campus mission of educating students and preparing them for the next phase of their lives, while keeping focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion and integrating lessons learned over the past few years. Dianne Hyson Dean, College of SSIS

Area F Update AB 1460 is a new Ethnic Studies graduation requirement for all students in the CSU. Our campus established a new General Education Area F in which Ethnic Studies courses fulfill this requirement. The hard work of Ethnic Studies faculty over several months met the enrolment needs of more than two thousand incoming first year students in fall 2021. The department will continue to plan for several thousand more students in area F courses in upcoming semesters.
